So, can the Hanover High baseball team make it 29 years in a row qualifying for the playoffs?
"We'll try; I know that," Indians coach Fran Coyle said.
Hanover began its journey to the postseason on Thursday, beating Rockland, 9-7, in its opener.
"I've talked to the kids" about the streak, Coyle said. "They know where we're at. After the game today they told me, 'Nine more' (wins) just to make the tournament. They understand the whole thing."
The Indians have never let graduation losses slow them down, and they hope this spring will be no different - even though they are missing some of the players who did the heaviest lifting in last year's run to the Division 3 South Sectional final.
Shortstop Jon Spitz (.528 average, 31 runs, 17 RBI, 12 steals) and pitcher David Gibson (8-1, 1.20 ERA, 90 strikeouts) were Ledger All-Scholastic picks, and left-handed pitcher Paul Cheney Jered Weaver Jersey was brilliant in defeat in the South title game - a 1-0 loss to Norton.
Coyle said Gibson and Cheney were "unbelievable" last season. Hanover (19-5 a year ago) now turns to a pair of righthanders - senior Mark Stearns (who earned the win Thursday) and junior Ben Amate.
Senior Bob Geddes, taking over for Spitz, was 2 for 4. "He has big shoes to fill," Coyle said, "but he played pretty well today. First day, lot of new kids, I was pretty happy with the way things turned out."
Matt Montt was 3 for 4 for Hanover. Junior third Angels of Anaheim Kendry Morales Jersey baseman Nick Elicone and senior outfielder Kevin MacDougall were each 2 for 4. Elicone delivered a three-run triple during a five-run uprising in the third inning.

David Collough hit an RBI single Brewers Zack Greinke Jersey in the third to tie the game, and Ryan Henry delivered a sacrifice fly to give the Panthers (1-1) the win. David Bailey pitched a complete game and struck out one while walking two.
For Pembroke, pitcher Kevin Plant struck out three while allowing four hits and two walks in the complete game.

Luke McDonough went seven innings, allowing four hits with 13 strikeouts to lead Quincy (2-0, 1-0) to a road win.
Derek Murphy was 3 for 4 with three runs scored for the Presidents.
On Wednesday, Quincy topped Stoughton, 4-2, in its non-league opener, getting strong pitching performances from starter Nick Millone (4 innings, 2 hits, 1 earned run) and reliever Peter Giunta (3 scoreless innings).
Chris Connolly (2 for 5), Adam Nazzar (2 for 2) and Robbie Lawton (2 for 3) provided the offense.

Pat Jackman pitched 4 1 /3 innings, allowing only one earned run, and went 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs and three stolen bases for Stoughton.

Neil Lanctot brings up a possibly overlooked fact about Hall of Fame baseball catcher Roy Campanella in the book, "Campy: The Two Lives of Roy Campanella."
He refers to the sports great as one of the first celebrities to appear in public in a wheelchair.
That's a very interesting comment. Campanella became a quadriplegic in a 1957 auto accident that obviously ended his baseball playing career. Before that, the most well-known person with physical disabilities probably was Franklin Roosevelt, and he essentially tried to hide them from the Authentic Andre Ethier Jersey public.
While Campanella had frequent medical problems in the final 26 years of his life, he still made some public appearances and turned up on television every so often. You probably could argue that he took away a little of the stigma about being disabled in the process.
That makes the baseball great something of a historic figure outside of sports. Campy had a diverse, interesting life full of interesting aspects.
Just for starters, Campanella was born in 1921 to an Italian father and African-American mother in a poor part of Philadelphia. What would have been the odds that he'd Clayton Kershaw Jersey come out of that background as a beloved figure, known nationally? Slim or none?
Campanella didn't spend much time in school, preferring the education taught on a baseball field. He actually turned pro as a 15-year-old, learning his craft mostly with the Negro Leagues James Loney Jersey of the 1930s and '40s.
The catcher joined the Dodgers' organization shortly after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, and followed Robinson to the majors when he arrived in Brooklyn in the Casey Blake Jersey summer of 1948. What's more, Campanella's outlook on life altered in that time. At more than 420 pages of text, "Campy" might be a little long for some, but fans of the sport and that era will certainly find plenty to chew Dirk Nowitzki Jersey on in this solid biography.

High school baseball teams began flexing their muscles this weekend as many got outside for the first time. Defending Class B state champion Waterville played three games during the weekend, beginning with a single game Friday at Old Orchard Beach. "It's the first time we saw live pitching," Waterville coach Don Sawyer said. "We hit the ball pretty well." On Saturday, the Purple Panthers hosted Lawrence and Presque Isle on their own field. "It's in great shape," Adam Lind Jersey Sawyer said. "Once the sun's on it, it dries really well." The Lawrence scrimmage matched a pair of aces in Waterville's Kyle Bishop and Lawrence's Shawn Russell. Both pitched three innings.
"We had a great scrimmage," Sawyer said. "I think they're going to be a surprise team." Waterville returns two of the top pitchers in Class B in Bishop and Tim Locke. The search for a No. 3 starter has come down to J.T. Whitten, Tyler Bouchard Authentic Adam Lind Jersey and newcomer Jake Porfino. The Hilltoppers came from behind to beat Kentucky on Wednesday in front of more than 5,000 fans at Bowling Green Ballpark. COLONIAL HEIGHTS - For six and a half innings, the Prince George baseball team was in the driver's seat to earn a victory in the Colonial Heights Baseball Invitational.
But that all stopped once Henrico put together a three-hit rally that led to tying the run at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
